About Us

Oscar Mira was born on 20 March, 1973, in the Cayo District of Belize. His father, Roberto, was a pastor and small-scale farmer originally from El Salvador, while his mother, a homemaker, was from Santa Familia, Belize. In 1980, when Oscar was an infant, Roberto was sent by his church to Belmopan to establish the Family of God Church in Salvapan, a neighborhood primarily inhabited by Salvadoran immigrants. His father built the church by hand using wood and thatch, laying the foundation for the ministry. The family lived there as well, without access to running water or electricity.Oscar began his education in Belmopan, attending primary school and graduating from Belmopan Comprehensive School. Even during high school, he was clear about his aspirations. He joined the BDF Volunteer Machine Gun Platoon in Belmopan immediately after graduation, launching an exemplary military career that spanned more than two decades. After passing the Officer’s Selection Board, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RAMAS), where he further honed his leadership and tactical skills.Recognized for his expertise, he received advanced training at various institutions in areas such as Jungle Warfare, Flight Training, Combined Arms Tactics, Strategic Defence, Intelligence, Defence Management, and Senior Management.
Throughout his career, he held several senior administrative positions, including Deputy National Security Coordinator at the National Security Council Secretariat, Force Intelligence Officer for the Belize Defence Force, Military Attaché to Guatemala, and Force Operations and Training Officer for the BDF. After an excemplary career in the military, he transitioned to the private sector, where he served in senior intelligence roles.
In 2018 he decided to enter politics and to represent the area he has always called home. He now serves as Area Representative for Belmopan.

Hon Oscar Mira currently serves as Minister of State for Defence under the substantive Minister of Defence and Border Security Hon. Florencio Marin Jr.As the Area Representative for Belmopan, Oscar is deeply committed to improving the lives of residents in the capital of Belize and its surrounding communities. A native of Belmopan who grew up in a family of modest means, he has a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by Belizeans across all socioeconomic backgrounds, from the underprivileged to the working and middle classes.During his first term in office, Oscar has emphasized discipline and integrity in governance. He has actively advocated for support to maintain and develop infrastructure across Belmopan. His efforts have led to significant upgrades in streets throughout the City of Belmopan, Las Flores, SalvaPan, San Martin, Rivera, Maya Mopan, Hillview and Las Lomas. And, bridges connecting the growing population centers in Belmopan East have been replaced with modern ferro-concrete structures. New drains, sidewalks, and enhanced parks with improved lighting, seating, and pathways further demonstrate his dedication to building a better community.Oscar Mira is a passionate sports enthusiast who actively supports various football and sporting clubs. His own club, Napoles FC, has achieved multiple championships both in Belize and internationally. Recently, he expanded his commitment to sports by launching the Napoles FC Premier Women’s League in Belize, promoting opportunities for female athletes.As a politician, Oscar lives by the motto: "My Word Is My Bond," reflecting his dedication to integrity and trustworthiness in public service.
